Customer Rating: Summary: This product does not last Comment: I bought this drill just under 2 years ago to supplement my much older, very reliable 12V Ryobi for when I need more UMPH.
I never did like this PC drill that much because it is very heavy and the batteries they supply have very low storage capacity. The charge would barely last 45 minutes of regular use.
This comes with a fancy computerized battery charger that can detect and charge several differnt voltage batteries. Well mine died a few months ago. I probably did not charge the batteries more than 25 to 30 times on that charger.
I called PC and the best they would do is sell me a charger at a discounted price of $65 including shipping. That works out to about $2 per charge.
I also have a friend who is an electrition and he tells me the PC cordless drills are the ones that are tossed after pretty short lives.
I recommned stongly against it - my only other experience with cordless drills is with my Ryobi. That is still going strong after nearly 10 years (with two new generic batteries that were actually better quality than the originals). I would recommend one of their higher end drills.
Customer Rating: Summary: King of the 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill/Drivers Comment: I have been working and playing with power tools almost all my life, I just turned 65. This Porter-Cable Cordless Drill/Driver has got to be the best one I've ever used. The weight and the way it fits in your hand is perfect. It's great the way Porter-Cable made a tool to respond to your commands so quickly and smoothly. The only drawback I could find is they didn't make a 15 minute charger like the guys who make that YELLOW drill.
Customer Rating: Summary: drills ok Comment: The drill is ok. Not as tough as I had hoped since a drop to the floor from waist level broke a piece of plastic on it. Good buy for the money but wish it was built like a hitachi.
Customer Rating: Summary: Just OK. Comment: I had worn out a fabulous Porter-Cable 14.4v cordless drill. I had used and abused it, great batteries, great power. My family got me this 19.2v model as a replacement. It works well, lots of power, etc... but the battery life is very poor, a fraction of my previous tool. I wouldn't buy it again.
Customer Rating: Summary: Hope your battery lasts Comment: Just bought this drill a few weeks ago (dec. 2006) I wanted to find out the cost of a replacement battery (for futute reference) Porter cable doesn't "have any left" there are two in dallas and mabe a few in detroit. Yes, this battery has been discontinued but the drill hasn't. No, there isn't another battery you can use (three different sources). So, why buy a great drill that you'll have to throw away with your "drill master" in two years, because the battery is beat? Your choice. Why two stars and not one? Because it is a very nice drill. Oh yea, spoke with porter cable they don't know why they did this.. Mabe it was the move to Taiwan
